Trevor Mervyn aka Texture & Light presents his new album ‘Vulture Medicine’, released on November 13th, 2020 via Introversion Records.

"Nine indie electronic meditations on life and death, nature and technology, authenticity and spirit (it's all connected). Synthesizers, guitars, drum machines, acoustic instruments, and field recordings from my life. And voice: I have really found my voice."

‘Vulture Medicine’ is Texture & Light’s 3rd full-length album and is a culmination of vast musical influences: Trevor’s teenage love for 90’s industrial music, his years as a house DJ in the 00’s, and his decade-long love affair between indie, electronic, and ambient music.
 
While Trevor considers himself an electronic musician, ‘Vulture Medicine' far surpasses this genre description; melodic synth lines, sub bass, and drum machines are weaved into a tapestry of guitars creating a fuzzy, hook-laden sound, drenched in delay and space. Trevor’s vocals are confident and assertive, while his lyrics manage to be both introspective and outward looking at the same time.

The album’s namesake and theme were influenced by the birth of Trevor’s first child. ‘Vulture Medicine’ represents the veil between life and death, and its frailty in the moment of (re)birth. The songs were born into this world inspired by fascination, meditation, fear, and hope; vultures are a good symbol for the circle of life and death, and the inter-being of all things.
 
Recorded at Trevor’s home studio in a secluded West Coast town, ‘Vulture Medicine’ benefits from Trevor’s love of synthesis and his improvisational and free flowing composition techniques. Most songs on the album began as live jams on hardware synthesizers, with guitars, voice, and acoustic instruments added to breathe life into those original electronic compositions. The album’s sound is further enhanced by the involvement of Jason Corbett (ACTORS / Jacknife Sound) as the mix and mastering engineer.

Overall, ‘Vulture Medicine’ is a free-flowing, dynamic sonic undertaking with a deep undertow that paints the picture of an artist coming to terms with himself as a man, a father, and a living being. It’s all connected.
