Stay Awhile 03:36
Anti-state just don't know how to spin They're still breathing now Fates collide phasing in and out They're just dreaming now Be so kind but do not fade away When dark matter comes They say stars paved the way for you Feeling so ajar Pay to stay Peel away your pain Just in case some day No one to fight No where to go Stay awhile Stay awhile She's now the reason that you stay Stay awhile Stay awhile Ask you for a favor but I don't have the right Cancel out each other and collapse into the night and I'll Stay awhile Stay awhile In sight of all this stress and trouble to explore There's a million pieces of sand at the bottom of your shoes and I'll Stay awhile Stay awhile Might reach across and grip your nervous hand Get crushed by the ocean and the waves but I'll Stay awhile Stay awhile Stay awhile Stay awhile

Statistics 02:34
Give me a stat to rely on you can't Disappear into the shadows again Give me a stat to rely on you can't Disappear the landscape again Burn all the evidence for me You produced at the bottom of the scene You're gonna need every last piece To build a whole new philosophy Give me a stat to rely on you can't Disappear into the shadows again Give me a stat to rely on you can't Give me all of these chances Burn all the evidence for me You produced at the bottom of the scene They're gonna need every last piece To set fire to all of the trees Give me a stat to rely on you can't Disappear again Give me a stat to rely on you can't Believe the ones I've seen

Branded 03:00
I'm not hated I just have a certain brand They cannot understand what it is I'm not hated I just have a persona That's not what they wanted I guess Open the door And give them everything They want and tell Me it's gonna be a while It's debated but I'll wait and then I'll pass it off I guess they don't know who I am I've been changing but I've faded to the background is my guess You'll know someone else Open the door And barricade yourself Inside a cave It's gonna be a while Open the door And barricade yourself Inside a cage It's gonna be a while Open the door And barricade yourself Inside a cage It's gonna be a while

I reached across The other side Showed me how to dance Inside your tide The hardest part of life Is learning how to find The hardest part of life Is learning why I sigh When you were young I was very brittle You gave me your tongue I threw up a little The hardest part of life Is learning how to lie The hardest part of my Growing serpentine Once I felt the loss Between you and us Remember what you said Space and time we'll meet again The hardest part of life Is learning how to find The learning's not ideal Feel the weight inside of you The hardest part of life Is learning how to find Give myself tonight Until I learn to sigh

Your Magic 03:30
Gonna make it clear Get out of here Gonna make it clear I don't have the time I stopped believing in I stopped believing in I stopped believing in Your magic I stopped believing in I stopped believing in Your magic Your magic You've given me some Some work to do So fade so still You've given me some thoughts about myself I stopped believing in I stopped believing in I stopped believing in Your magic I stopped believing in I stopped believing in Your magic Your magic Gonna make it clear The reason why And where I have been I don't have the time I stopped believing in I stopped believing in I stopped believing in Your magic I stopped believing in I stopped believing in I stopped believing in Your magic

I do want to Get around I do want to Get around inside your head Everyday Everyday I don't want to waste your time Picking up myself I don't want to waste your time Explaining my health I don't want to waste your time I do want to Get around I do want to Get around inside your head It's not that far I've got plenty of time It's not that way I just write the numbers down I don't want to waste your time Picking up myself I don't want to waste your time Explaining my health
7.
I can't ignore what you quantify About my kind I stand the line till I figure I Am satisfied We don't excel till you catalyze The still decline I open my eyes till I see The blind spots Taking my mind Over the line Waited for an answer from the world It's never felt more ancient and absurd Fading out changing my disdain Realize my focus has better ways You ignore my signal lights Until I stop You don't take back till I give you more Than I deserve You don't exist in a single life Of bad ideas This might the last single act before I ask Taking my mind over the line

Devotions 03:00
All these lies all these teachers Improvise conversation Give me some time I'll learn the lines If you decide I'll be fine All these speeches Fall into line This is in your reach This is my Devotion Devotion Devotion Devotion Give me some time I'll learn the lines If you decide I'll be fine Light the path with an even hand It's not circling fast enough I cannot exist if I don't know how To get around This is what binds These are my Compromised Expectations This is what binds These are my Devotion Devotion Lines

When I was young you'd let the fish Pull me out to sea Taught me how to swim by throwing me Into the deep end Taught me how to tie my shoes by Standing at the stairs Took too long I felt so numb I'm giving up again Couldn't understand why everyone else Had been offered this Before I get myself undone I'll try to remember the sun And I hit a nerve Goes to the brain It's absurd And I feel the stains Of my life But it turns Me to paste Turns me to silt I think I've felt Every word I've spoken Fell asleep on your chest I just can't fall asleep again Before I get myself undone I'll try to remember the sun

about

Aperture Isolation started after a brief hiatus from Holographe and a pursuit of other projects. Starting in 2019 I wanted to capture a few of ideas I had been holding on to. My self titled album had a heavier focus on electronic instrumentation in the writing process as a starting point, but Aperture Isolation has dug into my roots as a guitarist and appreciation of folk music. I think the return to form here shows in the warmth of these songs.

My writing process typically starts with an exploration of my subconscious, letting my thoughts and emotions spill out into some chords and some words or melodies. I try not to think too deeply about what the song should be or the context of the words and just capture a thought or emotion. Once the feeling is there, I can start to make sense of it in the lyrics and arrangement.

I'd say this album is essentially an exploration of loneliness and the various ways to experience it. Loneliness can be a phantom that pushes you further into isolation, or it can help you appreciate your existing relationships more. These are both valid ways of experiencing loneliness, I hope these songs have captured both of these sentiments.

I think it's fitting that the collaborators on this album have been much more involved than in the past despite the isolation. Trevor Mervyn (Texture & Light) contributed to the arrangement, synth and percussion on "Learning to Sigh", and "Devotions", and Daniel Demers (Overseas Territory) added synths to "Branded" and "Statistics".

When I started writing these songs it was before the COVID lockdown and I had just bought my first house life seemed like it was certain to follow a certain trajectory, but I finished the recordings several months deep into the pandemic. There was a real unintentional focus there, and sentimental evolution that might have been hard to achieve under different circumstances.

Here's a somewhat more analytical description of the themes on this album:

- If you stop fighting those that accept you, you might just feel at home.
- Reminiscing about childhood memories , and recognizing how my pain has shaped who I am as an adult.
- Realizing even my most cherished opinions can be wrong, new ones will form and I'll be okay.
- Not all teachers are worth listening to, you'll make it on your own if you keep trying.
- I am flawed, but I can't wait for the world to fix me, I have to do the work.
- If you don't try to take care of yourself, you can't expect someone else to.
- You'll never know how much someone means to you until they are gone.
- No matter what your brand is, someone will still hate you.
- Humans cling to the quantifiable, but you can't quantify everything.
